A universe of symbols, colors, and dreams—Joan Miró’s art defies convention and speaks in its own poetic language.
Joan Miró’s boundless imagination takes center stage in a major retrospective at the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum, the first large-scale exhibition of his work in Japan in 20 years. Featuring over 100 paintings, sculptures, and ceramics, the show traces Miró’s lifelong pursuit of artistic freedom, from his early surrealist experiments to his bold, playful late works.
Organized in collaboration with the Fundació Joan Miró in Barcelona, the exhibition highlights Miró’s deep connection to poetry, nature, and Japanese aesthetics, revealing the influences that shaped his singular visual language. Through vibrant colors, biomorphic forms, and expressive gestures, Miró sought to bridge art and life, breaking traditional boundaries with a spirit of radical creativity.
